TENETS OF FAITH
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers, nurtured by the unselfish love for each other. In the following tenets of faith we seek agreement, but grant liberty in matters of opinion and conscience.
1 GOD: We believe that there is one God, the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. Loving God is the highest duty and the greatest privilege of mankind.
(Deuteronomy 6:4-5, John 14:11, 26)
2 JESUS CHRIST: We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, salvation through His bloodshed on the cross and through His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal and imminent return in power and glory to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
(Matthew 1:18-25, Romans 8:34, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Colossians 1:15-20)
3 THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whom we are sealed for the Day of Redemption and by whose indwelling Presence we are empowered, anointed and gifted to live a Godly life through obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. We also believe in the present supernatural ministry of the Holy Spirit, who bestows the spiritual gifts, for the edification of believers on the earth since the day of Pentecost and continuing until our Lord’s return. We believe that signs and wonders, as well as the gifts of the Spirit described in the New Testament, are operative today and are designed to testify to the presence of the Kingdom of God and to empower and edify individuals to fulfill their unique callings and the church to fulfill the Great Commission.
(Matthew 3:11, Romans 8:26, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, Ephesians 1:13-14)
4 THE BIBLE: We believe the entire Bible to be inspired, inerrant in the original text, the authoritative word of God, the all-sufficient standard of our faith and practice. It is the final authority for all we believe and how we are to live.
(Matthew 5:18, John 17:17, 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21)
5 HUMAN BEINGS: People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience towards God called “sin.” This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. We believe all must turn from their sins.
(Genesis 1:26, Psalm 14, Romans 3:10, Romans 3:23)
6 SALVATION: Salvation is by grace alone through faith in Christ alone. No ordinance, ritual, work or any other activity on the part of man is required in order to be saved. It is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works, only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Any person can enter into a saving relationship with God by confessing the Lordship of Jesus Christ and believing in His complete victory over death. This same grace from God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, empowers us to repent from our sins and be forgiven and cleansed. The Holy Spirit sanctifies us by enabling us to do what is pleasing in God’s sight in order that we might be progressively conformed to the image of Christ. Eternal life begins the moment one confesses with their mouth, believes in their heart and receives Jesus Christ into his/her life by faith. We believe in the assurance of salvation for the believer. Sharing this good news with others is the responsibility of each Christian and the church.
(Acts 3:19, Romans 8:29, Romans 10:9-10, Ephesians 2:8-10)
7 BAPTISM AND COMMUNION: We believe that believers are to be baptized by immersion as an act of obedience and identification with the LordJesus Christ. We believe that water baptism and communion are ordinances to be observed by the church during the present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as a means of salvation.
(Matthew 28:19, Mark16:15, Luke 22:14-20)
8 MARRIAGE: We believe in God as the Creator; we believe that God created man and that He created them male and female. As such He created them different so as to complement and complete each other. God instituted monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family; the basic structure of human society.
(Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:24)
9 THE RETURN OF CHRIST: We believe in and eagerly await the personal and imminent “Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ at the end of the age to consummate His Kingdom.” We believe in a great end-time harvest of souls and the emergence of a victorious Church of unprecedented unity, purity and power in the Holy Spirit. This “Blessed Hope” has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.
(1 Thessalonians 4:13-17, 2 Thessalonians 2:8, Revelation 7:9-10)
10 ETERNITY: We believe that all will be judged for their decisions and actions. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. When the Christian dies he/she will forever dwell in blissful fellowship with God. We also believe that when the unbeliever dies he/she will experience punishment in the lake of fire, conscious and tormented by eternal separation from God. To be with God is eternal life (Heaven). To be separated from Him is eternal death (Hell). Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.
(Psalm 16:11, Luke 16:22-23, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Revelation 20:11-15)
